For the past 25 years, "Radio Aztlan" has faithfully been airing every Friday at 5:30pm to Saturday mornings at 7am on KUCR 88.3 FM. Through its programming, Radio Azlan brings the sounds and grooves of música Chicana. Radio Aztlan has built a loyal audience within the Inland Empire and beyond.
Now, in its tenth year, the Radio Aztlan Music Festival has become a highly anticipated and popular event. The festival seeks to further develop a cultural bridge and to promote the beauty and social value of Chicano music. The festival’s goal is to bring nuestra comunidad together and recognize nuestros artistas. Continuing in the tradition, the festival presents the best of entertainment and music variety provided through Radio Aztlán on the airwaves every Friday night.
This year’s 10th Annual Radio Aztlán Music Festival, was an unforgettable collection of legendary performers. Musical guests were because of their unique Chicano perspectives on music and their influential, positive lyrics. Among the participants were Tierra, among the best in Latin rock, pop, jazz, R&B & salsa. The West Side San Antonio Soul, an All-Star group of musicians from San Antonio provided classic oldies Tejano style. Other featured performances included The Blue Satins, providing the best of the East LA sound, and rhythm and blues artist Rich Garcia & The Midnight Cruzzers.
Radio Aztlan was recently presented as Entertainer of the Year Award by Hispanic Lifestyle; a magazine and media group committed to promoting positive images of the Latino community.
KUCR 88.3fm is part of the Division of Student Affairs, James Sandoval Vice Chancellor, at the University of California, Riverside. It is staffed largely by UCR students and broadcasts to the western region of the Inland Empire on 88.3 FM.
