UC Riverside
UCR Chicano Student Programs and other affiliated organizations are proud to present the 7th Annual César E. Chávez 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 7:30 - 11:00 am. The run will be hosted on the University of California, Riverside campus. Registration will begin at 7:30 am in front of the Carillion Tower. Parking will be in Lot 1 for $5.00 per vehicle.
The event is being held in conjunction with César E. Chávez Day of Service and Learning; a holiday honoring the life, work and values of César E. Chávez. The day also signifies the importance of education and community. As our way of contributing to the memory and philosophy of such a respected and admired legendary figure, our event seeks to unify the community by bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. Additionally, all proceeds will be allotted to various educational and social services centers dedicated to serving the community along with academic scholarships to deserving high school and UCR students.
The César E. Chávez 5k Run/Walk, hosted on the University of California, Riverside campus was initiated on March 30, 2002 with the purpose of furthering César Chávez’ message of service, "The end of all education should surely be service to others."
Event Highlights include a 5k Run/Walk and a 1k Kids Run for children 12 & under.
Every child crossing the finish line receives an award.
All race participants who submit $30 or more in pledges or teams that turn in $150 in sponsorships will not only have their registration fees waived, but receive an official t-shirt and commemorative token. The top individual and team pledge solicitors will be awarded special prizes.
A cash prize will be awarded to the top team in the Run and Walk category. Awards will be given to the top male and female walker. The top Runner in each division will also be awarded a prize.
The event will include a Community Service Fair, with higher education informational tables, vendor booths, and music. The annual 5k Run/Walk is a fun-filled day for the entire family. Join us in celebrating the legacy of César Chávez.
